Angel Alvarez is a Spanish-Dominican film director and writer based in Vancouver. With a passion for drawing, storytelling and an extensive background in visual effects, he prides himself on finding efficient solutions to seamlessly integrate computer generated images with live-action and create intriguing fictional worlds and characters.
Growing up in the Dominican Republic in the 1990s wasn't always easy for an artistic kid. His creative inclinations and interest in drawing was often a subject of concern in school and at home. But for Angel, storytelling was a sort of magical escape. As a child he began to formulate other worlds in his mind and exercise his storytelling tools throughout his everyday life. His motivation grew exponentially over the years, flourishing into a lifelong passion. He developed a love for philosophy, ancient history, science fiction, fantasy novels and animation—interests which continue to be an unending source of inspiration to this day.
Angel's passion would soon take him to a new life in Canada. Since arriving in Vancouver he has further honed his artistic skills by working alongside numerous talented collaborators. In addition to his writing and directing credits on various projects, he has offered his creative and technical skills to the visual effects department on several Hollywood blockbuster productions such as The Amazing Spiderman 2, Final Fantasy Kingsglaive, and Transformers: Age of Extinction, to name a few.
